I want your family to be yourself and interact with each other! In fact, if you have kids, it’s best NOT to tell your kids it’s a photoshoot but rather a family play date outside (there’s even a playground on site that you can all have fun at after the shoot). I’ll give some direction during our shoot, but it will mostly be 20 minutes of fun with your family. Once booked, I’ll send a password to my private blog post with more details, a what to wear guide, and link to my clothing inspiration page.

If you have any questions, simply reply via email or send me a text.

***These mini sessions are NOT for extended family groups, they are for immediate families with up to 6 people total, couples, kids, or pets. If your immediate family is larger than 6 people, please contact me before booking.***

I look forward to meeting you  ❤

Dallas Milk Bath Maternity Photoshoot Demystified – K-Rae Images

Milk bath maternity photography is slowing becoming more popular amongst expectant mothers, but still many are a bit hesitant to make the plunge (literally!). Since it’s such a unique way to capture a pregnancy, many mothers still choose to go the studio or natural light route outdoors. My goal here is to demystify the process of a milk bath maternity shoot and hopefully put some moms at ease and even get excited to do one themselves!

Here are my 5 steps to demystifying a milk bath session at K-Rae Images.

  1. Location. Location. Location.
It is up to the women to decide where they want their photoshoot to occur, whether at their own home or mine. If a client has a beautiful tub, I absolutely love shooting in a new location; however, I always ask if there is good natural light in the bathroom. The reason I ask this is because natural light (for my specific style) turns out a better finished image than with studio lights. That’s not to say I won’t do studio lights sometimes, but I just prefer the natural light glow if I have an option. Most women seem to go with shooting in my home bathtub simply because then they don’t have to worry about cleaning up their bathroom, or inviting someone into their home.

  2. Color Scheme and Props
Every shoot is unique in that there are different items and colors included. A mom can choose to do flowers, flower petals, fruit, etc. in the tub and each gives a different feel and final look. One mother may prefer a bright red rose milk bath, while another wants subtle cucumber slice environment. Since there are so many different options and colors, I let my clients select and bring with them whatever they want to personalize the shoot. Of course, I help offer advice and quantity ideas.

  3. Maternity Gowns or Tastefully Covered
I have a large collection of maternity gowns for my clients to use for their milk bath shoots so they don’t need to worry about buying any special dresses. I have quite a few different colors, and lace gowns seem to work best in the milk water; however, if a mom wants a specific color gown that I don’t have, I’ll do my best to accommodate. Some moms may be a bit more daring and even want some photos without the gown so the focus is solely on them and their baby belly. Either option is totally fine, and I always make sure to edit out any slips so the photos are tasteful.

  4. Makeup & Hair
I highly recommend using one of my makeup and hair professionals (to the point where I almost want to say it’s required). Why?! Moms gain so much confidence when they are all done up beautifully and are more relaxed knowing they can just show up to my shoot in baggy clothes, no makeup, and hair undone. I use some amazing makeup artists who live in the area, just ask me. Plus, I arrange everything so that my clients don’t have to worry about coordinating anything.

  5. Have Fun!
No explanation needed here but I’ll say it anyway. This is a fun shoot where mom gets into a prepared “milk bath” (I typically creating the bath as makeup is being done but I can also have it ready to go when a client arrives). Yes, it is milk but I tend to use powdered ingredients so I’m not pouring in gallons of milk. The water will be warm and should feel nice and soothing to mom. All they have to do is show some love for their little one to come.
