Outdoor Maternity Shoot 2019 | Frisco, TX Pregnancy Photographer

Outdoor maternity sessions are my specialty, and this one was no exception. There are only a few maternity gowns that truly blow me away, and this royal blue gown with an extra long tossing train is sure one of them.

I have a collection of 20+ maternity gowns for my clients to choose from when they book with me, and both of the below gowns are available for sessions. This mom sure rocked the gowns too!

Indoor studio maternity shoots | Frisco, TX

It’s December in Dallas which means the temperature get into the 30s at times. Brrrr! Although my typical maternity clients come to me for the extravagant outdoor maternity portraits, during the winter, my warm indoor studio is more the rage.

Now I know that outdoor portraits can provide more of a variety, especially with a couple walking around together or interacting with the environment, but there is something so beautiful about an indoor studio pregnancy photoshoot. I just completed two gorgeous maternity sessions where both expecting mamas had a similar vision (one wanted a couples shoot and the other wanted an individual shoot).

Check out the below images and let me know if this is the type of shoot you would want. I always love seeing my photos on Pinterest too, so feel free to pin and share your favorites to maternity inspiration boards! K-Rae Images is located in Frisco, TX (suburb north of Dallas, Texas) and serves the surrounding areas.

Penelope’s Newborn Photo Session | Dallas, TX Newborn Photographer in Frisco, TX

This sweet little girl made my day with all of her baby wrinkles. When I get these awesome chunky newborns, I just love capturing those details.

This angel was born November 11th at 9lbs 12oz & 20.5in long.

In the collage below in the yellow blanket newborn image on the bottom and the two images above, you can see 4 different sections in her arm – I mean isn’t that simply divine?! Ahhh! My job is the best – It’s hard for me to even consider it a job sometimes because I love what I do so much and just connect with these tiny humans.

Every little client that comes through my doors is unique and wonderful in their own way. Plus, I get to meet some wonderful new parents and some experienced parents that are still swooning over the newness of baby number 2,3, or more.

Dallas Milk Bath Maternity Photoshoot Demystified – K-Rae Images

Milk bath maternity photography is slowing becoming more popular amongst expectant mothers, but still many are a bit hesitant to make the plunge (literally!). Since it’s such a unique way to capture a pregnancy, many mothers still choose to go the studio or natural light route outdoors. My goal here is to demystify the process of a milk bath maternity shoot and hopefully put some moms at ease and even get excited to do one themselves!

Here are my 5 steps to demystifying a milk bath session at K-Rae Images.

  1. Location. Location. Location.
It is up to the women to decide where they want their photoshoot to occur, whether at their own home or mine. If a client has a beautiful tub, I absolutely love shooting in a new location; however, I always ask if there is good natural light in the bathroom. The reason I ask this is because natural light (for my specific style) turns out a better finished image than with studio lights. That’s not to say I won’t do studio lights sometimes, but I just prefer the natural light glow if I have an option. Most women seem to go with shooting in my home bathtub simply because then they don’t have to worry about cleaning up their bathroom, or inviting someone into their home.

  2. Color Scheme and Props
Every shoot is unique in that there are different items and colors included. A mom can choose to do flowers, flower petals, fruit, etc. in the tub and each gives a different feel and final look. One mother may prefer a bright red rose milk bath, while another wants subtle cucumber slice environment. Since there are so many different options and colors, I let my clients select and bring with them whatever they want to personalize the shoot. Of course, I help offer advice and quantity ideas.

  3. Maternity Gowns or Tastefully Covered
I have a large collection of maternity gowns for my clients to use for their milk bath shoots so they don’t need to worry about buying any special dresses. I have quite a few different colors, and lace gowns seem to work best in the milk water; however, if a mom wants a specific color gown that I don’t have, I’ll do my best to accommodate. Some moms may be a bit more daring and even want some photos without the gown so the focus is solely on them and their baby belly. Either option is totally fine, and I always make sure to edit out any slips so the photos are tasteful.

  4. Makeup & Hair
I highly recommend using one of my makeup and hair professionals (to the point where I almost want to say it’s required). Why?! Moms gain so much confidence when they are all done up beautifully and are more relaxed knowing they can just show up to my shoot in baggy clothes, no makeup, and hair undone. I use some amazing makeup artists who live in the area, just ask me. Plus, I arrange everything so that my clients don’t have to worry about coordinating anything.

  5. Have Fun!
No explanation needed here but I’ll say it anyway. This is a fun shoot where mom gets into a prepared “milk bath” (I typically creating the bath as makeup is being done but I can also have it ready to go when a client arrives). Yes, it is milk but I tend to use powdered ingredients so I’m not pouring in gallons of milk. The water will be warm and should feel nice and soothing to mom. All they have to do is show some love for their little one to come.

Natural Light Maternity Photography – What to expect when you’re expecting… to do a pregnancy photoshoot with me!

This is an article for all¬†moms or soon-to-be moms who are considering having maternity (pregnancy) photos taken. It’s a bit long but will provide great insight into maternity sessions!
~

I’m kind of excited to get my thoughts down on paper (eh, well on a blog) around maternity photo sessions and what mom’s can expect. I’m sure you have all heard about the book “What to expect when you’re expecting” so I’m putting a spin on this to share my thoughts around what all you lovely mom’s can expect when you shoot with me!
{Note: I am located in Dallas, Texas, specifically around the Plano and Frisco areas, and I take photos all around the DFW metroplex. I travel often to Houston, TX and will also travel for clients willing to bring me out!}

Taking professional photos is a wonderful experience and a great way to capture this AMAZING time. It’s time to forget the cellphone photos that you may only post to a social media site here or there. Instead, it’s time to plan to have beautifully created, artistically edited photos done that you will treasure, want to BRAG about and even print to show off! I hear some mom’s saying “I already did it with my first” or “I may do it with my next one” but the time is now. If you did natural maternity portraits with your last one, maybe try a city scene, country set, or milk bath session (possibilities are endless). Your pregnancy experience will be different with every child so why not capture it?

The purpose of taking maternity photos is to document the wonderful transformation your body is going through, remember this special time &¬†the feelings you have, and to celebrate¬†the new life you are bringing into the world. I’m here to capture those details and emotions through my eyes (and lenses)! Once you¬†realize that taking professional photos with me is totally! worth your hard earned money, you will start to understand the reason why right away. The goal of my photography business is to be able to provide a boutique and personally catered experience to all of my clients – and who doesn’t love being catered to?!

About K-Rae Images:

What you should realize that I’m 100% NOT:

  • working for a large company who is trying to get clients in and out
  • inside a mall selling quick 1, 2, 3 smile shots
  • making you buy 10 different sizes of the same image (like box stores do)
  • requiring you to provide your own maternity clothing

What I absolutely AM:

  • offering you a professional customized experience
  • providing you with different maternity gown options; you can always bring your own outfits if you prefer too! I may not have every gown you see because I have taken photos with other models and mom’s who purchase their own dresses but I do have 7+ to choose from in all different colors, coverage, and materials.
  • allowing you to select exactly what you want (you can choose to purchase digital images, prints, canvases, OR photo albums) & allowing you to select the sizes of products you want
  • going to spend quality time editing your photos to make sure they have my artistic touch and will display beautifully if printed (see before and after photo below)
  • using a professional photography lab to make sure the image colors and tones turn out exactly as intended
  • going to do my best to make your session enjoyable and¬†memorable
  • ready to provide you with images that you will want to display and show people!

Rachel Maternity 2 before and after

Now that we got all of that out of the way, you should know that I absolutely love what I do. I have had a passion for photography since high school (developing film in a dark room), and I always strive to create something special. My favorite time to capture these types of images is between 28-35 weeks; however, everyone shows at different times and in different ways so we can plan your session around your figure.

Your photography experience with me will start BEFORE your actual session. I’ll send you information via e-mail, we will decide the perfect location for you, and we can even chat on the phone before your session. We can talk about outfit or maternity¬†gown options, family members you want included in your photos (if any), and potential color schemes. Then you will arrive onsite, we will have a blast taking the photos (of course), and then the fun part…

You are invited to my home, or I can travel to yours, for a view and order session – this will be a fun time to review the proof (barely edited) images, talk through what you love and what you don’t and then make final selections. For those of you¬†that are super busy or unable to sit down with me, you can view online. Your images will be placed in a private online gallery so you can view the proofs, favorite, make comments, etc. With the proofs, you will also get to see a few fully edited images to see my artistic transformation and envision how it would look on the rest of the images. During the in-person view and order session, you will be able to see and feel the different products I offer so you can truly understand the quality. For example, my canvases are fully backed and come ready to hang with tight corners and amazing print quality (no cheap-o canvases where you can see the boards on the back!).

After confirming your order and paying for the images, I will spend up to two weeks editing them and then as soon as they are ready, I will send you the digital images (if you purchased any) and then send off the others to the professional printing lab I use to create your new items to treasure!

I look forward to working with you and capturing some stunning images (and hopefully documenting either your birth story or newborn photos afterward!).

If you haven’t already booked a session with me (and have a belly you want to photograph), now is the time –> E-mail me: kristin@kraeimages.com

I hope you love these images, and feel free to write to me on the blog with any questions/comments!

I serve maternity photography clients in both Dallas, TX & Houston, TX and surrounding areas. I will travel outside of these locations for portrait sessions; however, a travel fee may be included.
